Housing and living
There are about 32 500 inhabitants in the TornioHaparanda area, 70 000 people living in the TornioHaparanda-Kemi region and about 700 000 in the entite Bothnian Arc region. The number of residents has grown steadily during the previous ten years especially due to a high birth rate. In the near future, it is also expected that migration will intensify, bringing in new jobs and further improving the city`s international atmosphere and the boundless services.
TornioHaparanda is a twin city mostly dominated by one-family houses offering cosy residential areas on both sides of the border. There are plenty of comfortable blocks of flats, terraced houses, detached houses as well as reasonably priced building plots available. You can live by the Bothnian Bay, on the riverfront of the river Tornionjoki, in the city centre, in the pleaceful countryside or, for instance, a stone`s throw away from the national border.
