School health care

School health care services follow on from child health clinics in the long-term monitoring of a child’s health. The goal of school health care is to improve the overall development and health of the child by encouraging the permanent adoption of healthy habits.

School nurses are experts in the mental and physical health of pupils. Nurses are also a point of contact between the school and homes. The school nurse can and should also be contacted at times other than regular health inspections, particularly in matters related to coping at school and mental health.

Parents are welcome to attend health inspections. The inspections monitor the growth and development of the pupil and provide guidance and support. During the inspection, students also receive the required vaccinations and, if necessary, referrals to a physician, optometrist, physiotherapist or other medical specialist.
