Home heritage days are a celebration of homeland and locality. The goal of the days is for us to celebrate Tornio’s long history and cultural tradition and to increase appreciation for home and work to maintain culture heritage and to make Tornio known both here and nationally.
The theme of heritage days is “Borderless Cultural Heritage” and over the three days a diverse program will be organized around Tornio and its surrounding areas on both sides of the border. We want to reach locals, residents of neighboring municipalities, guests and tourists. The event brings together professionals and enthusiasts working on culture heritage issues nationwide.
We are organizing Home heritage days for the first time on our own. In Lapland, Rovaniemi last hosted the days in 2022. Heritage days have been organized since 1949 by the Finnish Local Heritage Federation who is the central organising body for local heritage work in Finland..
The program will be published in April-May 2026
The three-day event program includes the traditional Peräpohjola market and a joint village festival, open houses, workshops, music, art, bus and walking tours and boat trips, village fairs, interesting discussion chambers, sports and lots of programs for children and young people. Stay tuned for more!
Come and plan the program!
We invite everyone to participate in the planning and hope that all local associations, clubs and businesses will join in.
Let’s have a joint celebration for our home town!
