The City Board directs the city’s operations. It is responsible for the city’s administration and financial management, the preparation and execution of the city’s strategy and the overall development of the city, among other matters. The City Board is also responsible for the preparation and execution of decisions by the City Council and for monitoring their lawfulness.

In addition, the City Board acts in the best interests of the city and as its representative and spokesperson. The City Board is also responsible for industrial and employment policy, regional development, external relations, cross-border and inter-municipal cooperation, land use policy, and the city’s human resources policy and communications.

The City Board has 11 members, from whom the City Council chooses a Chair and two Vice Chairs. Each member has a personal vice member.
