Northern Finland is the stage of European culture in 2026 and now is the time to elevate culture, cultural creators and artists to their rightful position and to recognize the importance of culture for the vitality of regions. Oulu and all of 39 municipalities in northern Finland are filled with culture, art and events. Cultural climate change combines art, technology and community in new and surprising ways – creating encounters, new connections and interaction. The anniversary year will make the diverse culture of northern Finland visible in Europe, strengthen the position of cultural creators and highlight the role of culture as a builder of regional vitality as part of the European cultural community.

Volunteering plays a significant role in the implementation of the European Capital of Culture year; without you, we would not be here. As a volunteer, you will experience the unique status of the European Capital of Culture year and contribute to the construction of the year. Next year’s content will be structured in such a way that we take into account accessibility, community, different age groups, and a diverse cultural life. We look forward to welcoming you!
