A Tradition That Unites – Watch the New Documentary on Dipnet Fishing

Traditional dipnet fishing on the Torne River is currently being considered for inclusion in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

A short documentary about the tradition, directed by Bo-Johan Sörensen and produced by Brightnest Studios in Luleå, has been submitted as part of the application to Paris. The video is part of the Torne Valley Dipnet Culture project, funded by the Interreg Aurora programme. In addition to the cities involved, other funders include the Regional Council of Lapland, Utveckla Norrbotten, the Norrbotten Museum, and ProSiika ry. The project has also received support from the Inkeri and Mauri Vänskä Foundation.

The cities of Tornio and Haparanda are now pleased to publish the short documentary and share this remarkable cross-border tradition, set against the beautiful landscape of the Torne Valley.

You can watch the documentary on Tornio city’s YouTube channel.

We thank everyone who contributed to the video project!
