City Of Tornio
Tornio has been a central trading and meeting place of North Calotte since the 17th century. It received its town charter in 1621. The Haparanda trading centre was established 200 years later later and the freedoms were granted in 1842.
Long coexistence as neighbours has given rise to a unique and vivid culture in the area. Already the colourful history of the area itself indicates that its people have always had a strong will for creating new in a strong spirit of cooperation.
The planning of the future of the area is also a joint activity. Now the towns are already building a common town centre at the border .
